Gamesa supplies 9 latest generation wind turbines to wind farms in Albacete

The wind turbines to be supplied by Gamesa Eólica correspond to the new Gamesa G90-2.0 MW model.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, 10 June 2005. Gamesa Eólica, the world's second largest manufacturer of wind turbines and the market leader in Spain in the sector of the manufacture, sale and installation of wind turbines, has subscribed two contracts with the firm Iniciativas Eólicas de Alpera, S.L. for the supply of nine Gamesa G90-2.0 MW wind turbines to the El Moralejo I and El Moralejo II wind farm projects in the town of Alpera (Albacete).

Three of the nine wind turbines delivered are to be installed in the El Moralejo I wind farm and the remaining six in the El Moralejo II wind farm, and will involve the installation of a total power output of 18 MW.

The contracts, which record a value in excess of 17 million euros, provide for turnkey delivery. The beginning of assembly work is scheduled for the third quarter of 2005.

These contracts constitute the first agreement for the supply of the modern Gamesa G90-2.0 MW wind turbines, a model that is especially suited to low winds and completes Gamesa Eólica's G8X range of multimegawatt wind turbines. The technologies employed, both in design and in materials and productive process, are the most advanced the sector has to offer.

Insofar as materials are concerned, the Gamesa G90-2.0 MW wind turbine uses carbon fibre, given its enhanced properties of resistance, rigidity and lightness, whilst in the productive process Gamesa has applied the dry method technology by means of preimpregnation, which allows for greater process repeatability and a lighter product.

From an environmental perspective, the wind turbines supplied by Gamesa Eólica to the El Moralejo I and El Moralejo II wind farms will contribute to the generation of a clean power supply, by avoiding the atmospheric emission of contaminating substances. Specifically, the annual output of 18 MW generated by these installations will replace 3,869 Tonnes of Equivalent Oil (TOE)/year, so avoiding the release into the atmosphere of 39,823 tonnes of CO2/year.
