Diversity & Collaboration: the materials fueling our Brande laboratory

Madrid / 9 January 2021

Our colleagues are the center of our business, and their dedication and passion for creating a better world is something we should celebrate. Eva Moreno, a Spanish Engineer based in Brande Denmark is an outstanding example of our employees going above and beyond. Through her leadership, Eva is promoting diversity and reforming the face of collaboration to create a more forward-thinking and innovative workforce.
Internal Communications Specialist
Eva is part of the Validation Means Management department. Her head of department, Vicente Garcia Munoz explains that “The team supports the development of new products and technologies for the business in terms of validation and verification activities”. This combines external knowledge and internal testing exercises, providing best-in-class validation and testing methodologies to secure the best products and technological development.

“I am from a small town in La Mancha. I come from a place where the old windmills are still part of the landscape, and I have always been intrigued by the force of wind, and how we can benefit from it in the most efficient ways” Eva opens up about her early interest in wind.

After seven years at Siemens Gamesa, Eva is proudly leading the Brande Materials Laboratory in Denmark. After graduating from her degree in her home country Spain, Eva started her career in metallurgy and subsequently moved abroad to take on a new challenge. “Almost 8 years ago when I finished my PHD in material science, I felt I could contribute to the change my planet needs”

Eva went on to say. “I could still work in material science, I was still using microscopes and I could apply my knowledge to the real world, and even can work in the field of green energy to help make a difference for the climate.” affirms Eva.

“As a team lead, my job is to facilitate the work environment of the team members so they can focus on their expertise areas”. The laboratory in Brande is part of a network of four labs in Siemens Gamesa, which expertise covers several focus areas such as mechanical testing, non-distructive testing, coatings and corrosion, rain erosion testing, failure analysis on composites and metallurgy. Apart from this facility, Siemens Gamesa has another laboratory in Aoiz, Spain, as well as Aalborg and Lyngby, in Denmark

She is still thoroughly enjoying testing new materials and working with scientific devices. “The biggest part of our job consists of material characterization and root cause failure analysis of the main metallic components of the turbines. But it is not only that; we also have a key role in internal and external R&D projects” describes Eva.

Cultivating diversity
Throughout her career, Eva has been entirely dedicated to utilizing her expert knowledge and determination to make a truly diverse and innovative team. There is a gender gap still rife throughout the engineering industry, and Eva is dedicated to bridging this, and fostering a truly international and culturally diverse team.

“We believe in equal opportunities regardless of age, gender or nationality. while the lack of gender balance is not a secret in the engineering field, we are very proud to say that we are 4 women, in a team of 10. Indeed, there are 10 members from five nationalities in our team, Argentinian, Indian, English, Danish and Spanish.” Eva goes on to say.

Eva is truly passionate about harnessing the power of wind and cultivating an innovative environment where a cocktail of diverse perspectives can play their part in advancing wind. Through her role, she has created an inspiring environment where her team's expert knowledge can help in the fight for a healthier planet. “As a team, we are always pursuing new knowledge and collaboration with the entire organization. Together we will have a leading position in cutting edge technology” says Eva.

Eva is one of our many employees fighting for this, and fueling Siemens Gamesa to play its part in creating a better society.
