For many years, the German wind energy market was the most important in Europe. With ambitious expansion targets and committed project developers, wind power grew to become a strong pillar of German energy supply. However, complicated approval procedures and a lack of political will have recently slowed down the once dynamic expansion.
But 2021 could mark a turning point. This is the year of the German parliamentary election, and a year in which devastating floods in Western Germany have once again shown the urgency to tackle the climate crisis.
HUSUM Wind therefore comes at exactly the right time. The once so important German market needs new impulses - political, regulatory but also technological. As one of the traditionally largest exhibitors, Siemens Gamesa will cover several important topics at its booth.

Siemens Gamesa updated onshore product portfolio ensures long-term return-on-investments for our customers. The Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform features a new generation of turbines that takes the energy transition to new heights: in performance and reliability; in power output and rotor size to offer the most competitive LCoE. Its technology, built upon Siemens Gamesa know-how and expertise; offers great versatility, with a modular, flexible design that facilitates logistics, construction and service. Each of the two turbine models is highly adaptable to facilitate the optimal configuration for each project. At the booth, we will present the latest updates and news since the launch of the platform in 2019.
Gunnar Liehr, Head of Sales for the D-A-CH region at Siemens Gamesa, shares the positive outlook: “Husum Wind 2021 will send a strong signal for climate protection with wind energy. With our modern and powerful turbines of the Siemens Gamesa 5.X. platform, we can lift the energy transition in Germany to new heights. At the Nortoff II wind park, two of our turbines will replace four old turbines as part of a repowering project and still deliver a surplus of clean energy. But technological innovations need to be accompanied by a new determination on the part of policymakers. We need sufficient land, faster approvals and accelerated efforts in total installations for onshore wind to achieve the climate targets.”
However, wind energy alone will not be enough to achieve decarbonization in all sectors of the economy, especially in heavy industry or long distance transportation. Therefore, Siemens Gamesa believes that green hydrogen will play a vital role in transferring the benefits of renewables beyond the electricity sector. With our Brande Hydrogen test site, and the ambition to develop an offshore-wind-to-hydrogen solution that integrates the electrolyser at turbine level, Siemens Gamesa underlines its position as a technological leader of the green energy revolution. Multibrand service is Siemens Gamesa's third central theme at Husum Wind 2021.
With our engineering excellence built upon the DNA of five manufacturers in our company’s history, Siemens Gamesa offers best in class service including turbines from other manufacturers., This allows wind farm operators to have their entire fleet serviced from a single source to improve performance. The trade show will take place at the Husum Exhibition Center from September 14-17. It is the first major trade show in Europe to be held regularly again following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
