The new pilot platform combines a wide range of innovations to enhance energy output, reliability, and recyclability, incorporating intelligent load control strategies to increase applicability across diverse wind conditions (including wind class 2 and 3 sites) and featuring a maintainability-focused design. The project will focus on validating the fundamental design of the wind turbine through full-scale design validation prototypes, as well as validating the manufacturing and assembly processes with process validation prototypes. The total CO2 emissions potentially avoided by POWER will be 138,894 tons over 5 years of operation, equivalent to the CO2 emissions of more than six thousand Spanish citizens over the same period.
Europe's reliance on fossil fuels presents significant challenges. POWER will help to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, contribute to a more sustainable energy mix and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and support Europe's vision of becoming a climate neutral continent by 2050. It strengthens the EU's clean technology manufacturing base, contributes to the reform of the electricity market and the broader ambition to scale up renewable energy in line with the EU 2030 Energy Strategy. At the same time, POWER supports the Recovery Plan for Europe and the Industrial Strategy for Europe by creating quality jobs, investing in local value chains, and fostering supplier competitiveness across member states.
POWER will strengthen the wind industry's value chain across Europe. It spans Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy manufacturing locations in Portugal and Spain, testing sites in Denmark and includes several European suppliers. It will contribute to the creation of jobs and enhancement of the economy at Portuguese, Spanish, Danish and European levels and beyond, thanks to the full replicability of the product in the future.
