Turning problems into opportunities
Progressive thinking from our engineers enabled us to upgrade the turbine’s generator from a Rotor Resistance Variation to a DFIG solution.

The Gamesa Double Feed Induction Generator (stator connected directly to the network and rotor connected through an electronic bidirectional power converter) allows for incremental adjustment of the variable speed range by +/- 20%

This increased the profit to a maximum and decreased the CAPEX to a minimum.
Repowering from V47s to G47s lead to a significant improvement in energy production and extended the lifetime of the turbines by another 15 years. With this extension the turbines got a total lifetime of 35 years.

Deployment of these upgrades was a mammoth undertaking including +150 turbines in just the first phase. But our technological prowess and global workforce ensures utmost commitment to our partners all around the world.

To ensure this project respects the challenging timeline of the customer to get the PTC, Siemens Gamesa had allocated the right effort (human, material, training, etc.) at the right time. Despite the industrial scale of the project, we always maintained the high safety standards set by Siemens Gamesa.

And that was just the first step. Over the next few phases, we upgraded several wind parks with many Vestas V47 turbines capable of generating a significant amount of renewable energy. This enabled our client to power up America’s energy revolution.
